Community Center - Library Master Plan
Project Description:
The Yountville Town Center is focused on being a facility that is multigenerational while serving multipurpose functions. The Town Center will provide a central gathering place for Yountville residents, a place for recreation and leisure activities, and a place where residents can obtain information on Town activities and special events. The Town Square should serve as the “front porch” for the community and Community Center building as the “living room” for the community. The Community Service Department will be housed within the two main buildings, providing walk up service to all Town residents and visitors.
The Town Center will provide facilities for uses that currently are not met by the existing Community Hall and include:
- Construction of a new 10,000 square foot Community Center and Library that includes an Activity Room (multi-purpose gymnasium), new Library, Teen Room, Art Room, Staff offices and restrooms.
- Remodel of the existing Community Hall with new siding, roofing, storage, geothermal climate control, solar power generation and offices for the Community Service Department.
- Construction of a new Town Square that includes a recessed paver courtyard with raised planters, and landscaping.
- Reconstruction and expansion of the existing parking lot with block wall fencing and landscaping.
- Construction of a new 1,000 square foot Public Services Office to house the Napa Sheriff’s Department, our local police department.
- LEED Gold Rating.
LEED Gold, What Does That Mean?
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices through the creation and implementation of universally understood and accepted tools and performance criteria.
LEED is a third-party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED gives building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. A project can receive one of the following ratings based on how well sustainability is achieved in the before mentioned areas: certified, silver, gold and platinum.
Current Happenings:
Some walls are going up and some are coming down. The project is at an interesting midpoint with demolition occurring at the Community Hall, making way for renovations; and the structural frame of the Community Center taking it's final shape. Within the framed walls of these buildings, tradesmen are installing the infrastructure that will carry their respective utility, be it water, electricity or air. Also on the project one can begin to see the finish treatments of the Public Service Office and the Service Enclosure being installed.
