Subject: Grand Re-Opening of Vineyard Park Thursday, October 18th at 5:30 PM

The Town of Yountville is holding a Grand Re-Opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Vineyard Park located on Oak Circle in Yountville. Join us Thursday, October 18 at 5:30 PM to celebrate the re-opening of the park with the completion of the court renovation project and the outdoor fitness equipment project.

Located on the east side of Yountville, adjacent to vineyards and with sweeping views of Stags Leap, Vineyard Park is truly a gem. This neighborhood park is now home to part of the town’s walking path system, an outdoor fitness equipment area which offers five machines to choose from, four permanent pickleball courts and one tennis court as well as a public restroom, basketball court, picnic area, and fitness mat.

The 2017/18 Town of Yountville’s Capital Improvement Program designated a project of adding outdoor fitness equipment to the park as well as a project to resurface the existing tennis courts. Prone to flooding and drainage issues, the configuration of the tennis courts was proving to be inadequate to withstand the winter rains and intermittent flooding that the area experiences being near Hopper Creek as well as having a drainage culvert on the east and south sides.

The fitness equipment project was vetted by the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission at three public meetings before and after a community survey was completed. The equipment was chosen to meet the diverse needs of our community and ensure use by many fitness levels. The Town chose to work with Greenfields Outdoor Fitness Equipment after looking at several other companies and conducting site visits to other cities. The area at Vineyard Park was dug out for the installation of a solid gravel and binder surface. The machines were then installed. This project was completed in-house by the Town of Yountville Public Works-Municipal Operations Team; Larry Handcock, Juan Castillo, Ryan Hill, Jacob King, Leo Martinez, and Jim Wynn and opened to the Public in July of 2018.

The Court Resurfacing Project began in 2016 with analysis on how to manage the moisture issues of the site and ensure the courts were reconstructed to allow for the underground water and potential flooding of the site. After seven public meetings and considerable staff time, a design consisting of post-tensioned slab concrete with a cushioning layer was decided upon along with drainage improvements and new fencing. In May of 2018, the Town Council approved entering into a contract with Vintage Contractor for the project with a budget of $350,000. The two tennis courts would be renovated to hold four permanent pickleball courts and one tennis court all of the existing footprint. Construction began in August of 2018 and was completed in early October 2018.

The Town of Yountville would like to thank the Parks and Recreation Commission and the Pickleball Community for their time and support with this project. A special thanks to Commissioner and Yountville Resident Verlin Chalmers for all of the time, expertise and energy he put towards helping to make this project the best it can be.

Please join us on Thursday, October 18 at 5:30 PM to celebrate the completion of this project. Attendees are encouraged to wear athletic shoes and give the courts a try for the first time! Loaner Pickleball equipment will be available for use. Parking is limited; please use the Yountville Trolley, walk or bike to the event. Ample bicycle parking is available.

Please call (707) 944-8712 with any questions.
