Subject: New Gallery at Community Center Show “The Nature of Color” featuring local artist Jean Cullinane opens Thursday, August 1!
The opening reception for artist Jean Cullinane, “The Nature of Color”, will be Thursday August 1, 5:30-7:00 PM at Gallery at the Yountville Community Center located at 6516 Washington Street in Yountville. Beverages and light bites will be provided.
Cullinane’s mantra is, “I paint for the sheer joy of it!” She is a native Californian who grew up in Marin County and moved to Napa fifty years ago. She draws inspiration from western vistas, coastal tides, the natural light and color around us. She creates compositions that explore and express love of the natural world and its amazing color.
At age 50, Cullinane returned to school and earned a BA degree with emphasis in painting and minor in art history. She paints in oil, glazes and builds layers to create depth and a glow in her work. Initially looking for proportion and harmony, she sometimes moves from a nature inspired composition to something more abstract.
Cullinane is especially devoted to her garden that also serves as a muse for her painting. She recently visited Ghost Ranch, the New Mexico homestead and studio of the late Georgia O’Keefe who also shared a similar passion for gardening. Cullinane shows her work at Riverfront Gallery in Petaluma and Calamity Jane’s Trading Co. on First Street in Napa.
“The Nature of Color” by artist Jean Cullinane is presented by Yountville Arts. The exhibit will extend through Friday November 1. For more information about Jean, visit www.jeancullinaneart.com and for more information about Yountville Arts visit 707-944-8712.
