[ARCHIVED] Excessive Heat Warning Cooling Center Hours and 4th of July Celebration Cancellation

Excessive Heat Warning

Napa County is under an excessive heat warning per the National Weather Service for Tuesday morning - Saturday evening, July 2 – July 6.

Due to the forecasted high temperatures and for the safety of attendees, staff, partners and vendors, the Town of Yountville 4th of July Celebration in Veterans Memorial Park will be cancelled this year. The Yountville Community Center will be open from 12 PM – 7 PM on July 4th as a cooling center and the Town is excited to offer “Chill Beats & Treats” from 4 – 6 PM in the Generations Room. Join us for a frozen treat, 4th of July fun, crafts, and music you can dance to provided by Robin McKee- Cant in the COOL air-conditioned space.

A Cooling Center will be open at the Yountville Community Center:

  • Tuesday, July 2 – 8AM – 9:30 PM
  • Wednesday, July 3 – 8 AM – 9 PM
  • Thursday, July 4 – 12 PM – 7 PM
  • Friday, July 5 – 8 AM – 9 PM
  • The Yountville Library will be open Saturday, July 6   9 AM – 5 PM

The Town of Yountville urges residents to remain vigilant against heat-related illnesses, both for themselves and their loved ones. Prolonged exposure to extreme heat can lead to serious health issues, such as heat stroke and even death.

Tips to Stay Safe During High Heat:

Stay Cool

  • Stay out of the sun, limit outdoor activity, and avoid physical exertion.
  • Seek out air-conditioned buildings.
  • Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing and wide-brimmed hats when outdoors.
  • Lower body temperature by using cold compresses, misting, and taking cool showers, baths, or sponge baths.

Stay Hydrated

  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and sugary drinks as they can cause dehydration.
  • Eat light meals.

Seek Medical Attention for Heat Exhaustion

  • Be aware of the following symptoms of heat exhaustion and seek medical attention if they occur:
  • Profuse sweating and muscle cramping.
  • Body temperature of 105°F with hot, dry skin.
  • Confusion or unconsciousness.

Protect Your Pets

  • Remember that pets are vulnerable to high heat too. 
  • Never leave pets in a car, even for a short period.
  • Watch for signs of heat stress in pets, such as heavy panting, glazed eyes, a rapid pulse, unsteadiness, staggering gait, vomiting, and a deep red or purple tongue.
  • Provide a cool place for pets to rest.
  • Immediately call animal control or police if an animal is in distress in a car.
  • If you suspect your pet is experiencing heat stress, seek veterinary attention promptly for evaluation.
