[ARCHIVED] Washington Street Corridor Paving Work Wraps Up — Final Enhancements Underway

Washington Street Corridor Project with hot air balloon

The Town of Yountville takes pride in the quality of our streets and is proud to have the best pavement condition index in Napa Valley and one of the best in the greater Bay Area. Maintaining that high level of quality, which the Town's residents, businesses, and visitors enjoy, requires a lot of work annually, with at least one street or more being paved each year. The funding for these projects comes from Measure T/U, a county-wide half-cent sales tax from which the Town receives its fair share allocation to undertake street maintenance projects.

This year's project was the Washington Street Corridor, from Yount Street to the northerly Town limits, along with Webber Avenue from end to end. In addition to paving the street, there will be pedestrian and bicycle improvements to both Washington Street and Webber Avenue. Some of those improvements can be seen in the new sidewalk configuration in front of Ciccio's and the soon-to-be-open Pancha's, as well as the new curb and gutter along the French Laundry Garden.

Now that the surface is paved, there will be improvements to the Washington/Webber intersection in the form of a 4-way stop with a pedestrian "scramble" crosswalk, meaning the entire intersection will be walkable as the cars stop at the stop signs. It will be distinguished by a textured, red-colored surface, just like the Town's crosswalks up and down Washington Street. The stamped theme will continue in both directions on Webber Avenue, forming an "advisory lane" and creating the Mid-Town Connector, which will connect the Vine Trail to the Yountville Commons site and the Hopper Creek Path.

When the Town has to undertake a paving project such as Washington Street, the Town’s main corridor, there are many factors that weigh upon the schedule. In this case, it was determined that one night of night work in the most traveled and congested area of the Town’s Washington Street business corridor was the most efficient and best approach Town-wide.

On behalf of the Town of Yountville, we apologize for the noise from the night work last night. While there will be more day work on Washington and Webber to complete the features described above, the night work is complete.

Town staff appreciate the patience of the Town's residents, businesses, and visitors during these construction events and look forward to sharing the completed project which will make the Washington Street Corridor better for all.

Speaking of Town staff, the Public Works team and leadership deserve special thanks and recognition for managing the Washington Street Corridor project with excellence from start to finish, delivering the work on time and within budget.
