With temperatures forecasted to reach the high 90s this weekend and with even warmer days ahead, the Town of Yountville encourages all residents to take steps to stay safe, cool, and hydrated this summer. While hot weather is part of the season, extreme heat can still pose health risks, especially for older adults, young children, people with chronic conditions, and those who work or exercise outdoors.
Stay Cool
- Avoid direct sunlight and limit outdoor activity during peak heat (10 a.m.–4 p.m.)
- Spend time in air-conditioned places whenever possible
- Wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing and wide-brimmed hats
- Use cold compresses, misting, or cool showers to lower body temperature
Stay Hydrated
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day
- Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and sugary beverages
- Eat lighter, hydrating meals
Stay Informed
- Learn more about preventing heat-related illness at readynapacounty.org
- Help spread the word and share safety tips with family, friends, and neighbors
Know the Signs of Heat-Related Illness
Seek immediate medical attention if you or someone else shows symptoms such as:
- Heavy sweating or muscle cramps
- A body temperature of 105°F or higher with hot, dry skin
- Confusion or unconsciousness
Pet Safety
Hot weather affects pets, too. Be sure to:
- Never leave pets in parked vehicles
- Watch for signs of heat stress: heavy panting, glazed eyes, rapid pulse, vomiting, or unsteadiness
- Provide shade and plenty of water
- Call animal control or local authorities if you see a pet in distress
- Contact your veterinarian immediately if your pet shows symptoms of heat-related illness
