THE SCULPTURE OF IVAN MCLEAN
Steve Rogers Gallery
May 11 - August 3
Artist Reception: May 11, 5:30 – 7 PM
Yountville Arts is proud to present the Opening Artist Reception for “OUTSIDE IN” by sculptor Ivan McLean on Thursday May 11, 5:30-7:00 PM in the Steve Rogers Gallery at the Yountville Community Center. This unique Gallery show will bring Art Walk artist Ivan McLean's work, which is typically OUTSIDE, IN-to the Gallery for a deeper look into his process and the ability to see scaled down versions of his many popular sculptures. Light bites and beverages will be served.
McLean is additionally the featured artist for ART, SIP & STROLL 2023, on Saturday, May 20 with his work front and center on this year’s event poster. www.artsipstroll.com.
The exhibit “OUTSIDE IN” will bring the popular Yountville Art Walk IN-side the gallery for a more personal look at the artist, his work and fabrication methods. McLean has created IN-side sculptures for display next to blown-up photographs showing the artist at work. His ‘OUTSIDE’ sculptures “Yellow Sphere” and “Re-Invention”, are currently found along the Art Walk.
“Working with Ivan and his larger Art Walk sculptures in the past inspired me to contact him about a show in our Gallery featuring his interior sized sculptures,” states Yountville Arts Chair Ronda Schaer. “This is the first time our Gallery has offered a 100% three-dimensional show and we expect to have up to 10 original Ivan McLean pieces on display. Visitors will enjoy the unique layout of the Gallery with Ivan’s art displayed on his custom created rustic redwood pedestals.”
As the sculptor explains about the “OUTSIDE IN” exhibit, “This gives me a special opportunity to present my smaller works. Many are maquettes, small models from which I decide whether or not I like them enough to blow them up into full-sized works”.
The sculptor developed a love of art and building things at a young age. The son of a Danish contractor/adventurer and Swedish mother/photographer, he picked up welding while working on ranches near the family home in Point Reyes Station, California. Now based in Portland, Oregon, McLean works in a variety of materials and styles. The past 10 years have been a very productive time and Ivan has had the opportunity to create hundreds of sculptures from a variety of materials. His next big project is to convert a century-old lumber mill on the Colombia River Gorge in Washington into a sculpture park.
Located at 6516 Washington Street at the Yountville Community Center, the Steve Rogers Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 am - 4 pm as well as evenings and weekends by appointment. For more information, please call 707-948-2627 or email Yountville Arts email@example.com.
