Town Manager update

The Town of Yountville's 60th Anniversary of Incorporation: Diamond Jubilee

The Town of Yountville was incorporated 60 years ago on February 4, 1965. Earlier this week, we celebrated this exciting milestone at our Diamond Jubilee. A huge thank you to all that braved the cold and rainy weather to join us for this joyous occasion. We also hope you had a chance to wander through the temporary pop-up museum, aptly named Common Roots, where a selection of old photographs and relics were displayed with fascinating information to accompany these items.

The Incorporation of Yountville: Yountville was incorporated on February 4, 1965. The process for incorporation of the community was not an easy mission and took the hard work of several individuals throughout the 1960’s. In its early beginnings, Yountville was a rural town overrun by bars and taxicab services. The community faced significant challenges, including gaining consensus among residents who were divided on the benefits of incorporation. The Yountville Improvement Club, which was established in the early 20th century, reactivated and included the study of formation into a city as one of the many suggestions for community improvement. There were many “Movers and Shakers” who were instrumental in getting Yountville incorporated and transforming it into the town it is today. The incorporation of Yountville brought significant benefits to the community, including the establishment of a structured city government that ensured efficient management and development. It allowed for the provision of essential services such as utilities, fire protection, and police oversight, which greatly improved the safety and quality of life for residents. Additionally, incorporation facilitated the creation and maintenance of parks and recreational areas, enhancing the town's appeal and fostering a sense of community.

Our sincere gratitude goes out to all who made this celebration and pop-up museum such a great success. Cheers to another 60 years!

Planning and Building

Planning and Building Update

Humboldt Mixed-Use Project: On January 14, 2025, the Zoning & Design Review Board (ZDRB) considered a revised mixed-use project at the corner of Jefferson St. and Humboldt St. After receiving the staff report, applicant presentation and public comment on the proposed project, the Board deliberated and ultimately voted 4-1 to continue the item to a date uncertain so that the applicant can make further design changes to the project.

Tech Talk with Jason B

During a power outage, your mobile device can be a vital lifeline. Conserving battery life is essential to maintain connectivity and access emergency services. Here are some concise tips to help extend your battery:

1. Enable Power-Saving Mode: Activate your phone’s low power mode to reduce background activities and lower system performance.

2. Adjust Display Settings: Lower your screen brightness, shorten the screen timeout, and switch to dark mode if available—especially useful on OLED screens.

3. Limit Connectivity: Turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and non-essential cellular data, or use airplane mode when possible (keeping in mind it may disable incoming calls).

4. Close Unused Apps: Shut down background applications and disable auto-refresh features to prevent unnecessary power drain.

5. Reduce Notifications: Limit or silence notifications to avoid frequent screen wake-ups.

6. Prioritize Essential Communication: Reserve battery power for crucial calls and texts by avoiding high-drain activities like streaming or gaming.

By following these simple strategies, you can maximize your mobile device’s battery life during a power outage, ensuring that you stay connected when you need it most.
