September 5, 2025 Edition

Even though the weather still feels like summer, many of us are ready to welcome the rhythm of fall. It’s a season of gathering, reflection, and connection, a time when neighbors come together to share experiences and look ahead to what’s next for our community. As we savor these final warm days, we also look forward to the new opportunities the season will bring to Yountville.

September is also National Preparedness Month, a reminder that when we plan ahead, we strengthen the safety and resilience of our entire town.

In that same spirit of preparation and participation, Outreach Week for the Yountville Commons begins next week. We invite you to join the conversations, share your perspective, and help shape the future of this important community space. From an open house to one-on-one conversations with the design team, there is an opportunity for all to participate. Details can be found on the Town's website.

Ways to Welcome September in Northern California

  • Visit the Coop Farmstand or Yountville Farmers Market and enjoy late-summer produce like tomatoes, corn, figs, and stone fruit.

  • Take a drive through Napa Valley to catch the start of grape harvest season and crush activities.

  • Plan a picnic at your favorite Yountville park while the evenings are still warm and the days a little shorter.

  • Refresh your emergency kit during National Preparedness Month to keep your household ready for the unexpected.

  • Attend a community event or open house to connect with neighbors.

  • Try a new seasonal recipe like the one below that blends late-summer vegetables with early fall flavors.

  • Pause to enjoy an outdoor sunset! September skies in Northern California are often the most vivid of the year.

Late-Summer Ratatouille with Chickpeas

Late-Summer Ratatouille with Chickpeas

Bright, colorful, and rich in taste, this ratatouille brings together eggplant, zucchini, bell peppers, onions, and tomatoes, the stars of early September’s harvest, simmered to perfection with fragrant garlic and herbs. Chickpeas add a satisfying dose of plant-forward protein, making this dish a Blue Zones staple come to life in your kitchen.

Blue Zones diets thrive on legumes such as beans, chickpeas, and lentils, which provide essential fiber, protein, and nutrients that help fuel healthy moments of connection.

Ingredients (serves 4–6):

  • 1 medium eggplant, diced
  • 2 medium zucchini, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 large ripe tomatoes, chopped (or 1 can chopped tomatoes)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (1½ cups) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried thyme (or fresh sprigs)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, cooking until softened.
  2. Add eggplant, zucchini, and bell pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until beginning to soften (about 10 minutes).
  3. Stir in tomatoes, chickpeas, oregano, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cover and simmer 15–20 minutes, until vegetables are tender and flavors meld.
  4. Taste and adjust seasoning. Garnish with fresh herbs before serving.

Washington Street Rehabilitation Project Update

The Washington Street Rehabilitation Project remains on schedule. Daytime construction is expected to wrap up by the end of tomorrow, with night work planned for Monday evening (and Tuesday evening, if necessary).

After paving is complete, the contractor will return to finish key enhancements, including utility lid adjustments, stamped crosswalks, the stamped pathway on Webber Avenue, and final striping. These improvements are scheduled to continue later this month and into next month.

This project is funded through Measure T, the countywide transportation sales tax that supports road rehabilitation and repair across Napa County.

Thank You, First Responders!

The Pickett Fire is over 90% contained thanks to the tireless dedication of firefighting and safety personnel who worked around the clock to protect our community and the Napa Valley region. Crews from across California answered the call, bringing their expertise, strength, and courage to the front lines. Their coordinated efforts, supported by air and ground resources, ensured the fire’s swift containment and safeguarded homes, businesses, and open spaces.

We are deeply grateful to every firefighter and support team member who responded, from local agencies to those who traveled from far and wide across the state. Their professionalism, bravery, and commitment remind us of the extraordinary people who step forward in times of crisis to keep our communities safe. Thank you from Yountville!
