Subject: Trimming of Two Redwood Trees in Yountville Community Park

The Town Public Works Department will be working on trimming two Redwood trees at the northeast end of Yountville Community Park. These trees which have been affected by climate change have been receiving additional care and specialized treatment under the direction of arborists for an extended time. At this time, the arborists are recommending additional trimming to help the trees and for safety reasons. These particular trees are also sitting on almost solid rock with a thin layer of soil of about three (3) to four (4) feet deep which impacts the root system differently from other Redwoods in the park.

The Town received the arborist report with a recommendation to trim the top third part of the trees to relieve excess weight and avoid potential fall of the trees during a storm. This effort is also an attempt to help these trees health improve and provide a safe park environment.

Signs will be installed today advising park visitors of what the Town is doing to try to save these Redwood trees.
