Hydrant Inspection and Flushing
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: April 2, 2020
Subject: Hydrant Inspection and Flushing
The Town of Yountville Public Works Department, Utility Operations Division is planning to perform inspections of the fire hydrants within the water distribution system. This work is expected to begin Monday, April 13, 2020 in the south end of Yountville near Veteran’s Memorial Park on Washington Street working toward the northern end of Washington Street.
It is anticipated that this work will take place on Mondays and Tuesdays and on Thursdays and Fridays between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. during the months of April and May as time allows. The areas of highest priority will be; Washington Street and Madison Street (Phase 1), Yount Street (Phase 2), Yountville Crossroad (Phase 3), and Finnell Road (Phase 4). Subsequent locations will be shared as information becomes available. Each phase is expected to take 1-2 weeks but, this is subject to change and updates will be made available if needed.
Operations Staff will be opening each fire hydrant to flush out the section of pipe that connects to the water main for a few minutes and verify that each hydrant is fully operational, noting any potential repairs or replacement needs. Additional flushing may be required if colored water is experienced in various locations throughout Town but, this is not expected at this time. Residents should avoid using the laundry for white or light-colored items during these hours.
The first hydrant to be inspected on Washington Street will begin on Monday, April 13, 2020 and be in front of the Catholic Church, followed by the next hydrant to the north near Champagne Drive. Two hydrants at the intersection of Washington Street and California Drive will follow. Once crews make their way to Oak Circle approximately six (6) hydrants will be inspected within the property of the Villagio Inn and Spa. These are Town-owned hydrants and are included as part of our system. These sections are anticipated to be complete by April 14, 2020. Periodic updates will be given as crews progress.
Thursday, April 16 and Friday, April 17, 2020, crews will continue from Mulberry Street inspecting the hydrant in front of the Whistle Stop Complex working their way up Washington Street to the next hydrant at the intersection of Humboldt and Washington, followed by the hydrant at Webber and Washington, then the hydrant in front of the French Laundry Garden, the intersection of Starkey and Washington, Lincoln and Washington finishing at the intersection of Lincoln and Jackson near Yountville Community Park.
If time allows, the next sections that will be done will be on Madison Street starting at the west end with the two hydrants near R+D Kitchen finishing up at the hydrant at the intersection of Jefferson and Madison.
Progress updates will be shared for the next sections once a more accurate timeline is available. This will include specific locations of where crews will be working.
The Town will inform the community if brief traffic control is needed and the location via Nixle and social media. Please drive carefully.
