John joined the Yountville Public Works Department in December 2019 as Deputy Public Works Director bringing 30 years of practical experience in both the public and private sectors. His tenure includes working for three private consulting firms performing classic engineering, land development and environmental restoration as well as eight years in the St. Helena Public Works Department and most recently three plus years in the City of Napa Public Works Department. With this diverse background, John has practical experience in all aspects of public works including: municipal operations, facility management, street maintenance, water treatment and distribution, wastewater collection and treatment, fleet operations, floodplain administration, traffic and transportation operation, development engineering, capital improvement engineering, public contract bidding and construction oversight, management and inspection. On August 1, 2021 John was promoted to Public Works Director.
John grew up in Southern California where he became an Eagle Scout. He attended college at Cal Poly Pomona earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering then becoming a registered Professional Engineer in the State of California. John and his wife, Mary met while attending Cal Poly Pomona, married and moved to the Napa Valley in 1998. Here he has been involved in the community, graduating from Leadership Napa Valley Class 25 and helping Mary to start a non-profit dedicated to helping children with communication and movement needs.
