Town Council Meeting Update

Parks & Recreation Advisory Commission

At the March 21, 2024 meeting Town staff presented updates on projects outlined in the 2023-24 Capital Improvement Plan and the newly adopted Parks and Recreation Master Plan.

Projects discussed included:

  • South Washington Street Parking Improvement Project: This project aims to enhance the parking area south of Veterans Memorial Park, including an enclosed dog run area and street improvements.
  • Off-Leash Dog Hours in Parks – Pilot Program: The commission received information from staff about a pilot program that would allow off-leash hours in Yountville Community Park, Vineyard Park and the to be acquired Yountville Elementary School field. The commission received public input and staff will bring the item back at a later date.
  • Shade Structures in Yountville Community Park Picnic Areas: Proposals for shade sails at select picnic sites were discussed, along with color options. The commission recommended the "latte" color for the fabric and dark green for the posts. The item will not go to Town Council for discussion and potential approval.

Spring Forward into Sustainability

As we welcome the arrival of spring, it's the perfect time to embrace energy-saving habits. Here are some quick tips to help you make the most of this season:

  • Maximize Natural Light: Open up those curtains and let the sunshine in! Utilizing natural light during the day can reduce the need for artificial lighting and help lower energy consumption.
  • Tweak Your Thermostat: Adjust your thermostat settings for optimal comfort. Consider setting it a few degrees lower during the day and using blankets or wearing layers to stay cozy. This simple change can lead to significant energy savings over time.
  • Upgrade to ENERGY STAR Appliances: Thinking about replacing old appliances? Consider upgrading to ENERGY STAR certified appliances for long-term efficiency gains. These appliances are designed to consume less energy, saving you money on utility bills while reducing your carbon footprint.

Another great way to be involved in sustainability is the Napa County Climate Challenge, a community-driven initiative aimed at combating climate change in the Napa Valley region. By signing up the Napa County Climate Challenge, you can be a part of the change we all want to see! Visit their website to learn more and take action today!

Together, we can take small steps to conserve energy and protect our planet for future generations!
