Celebrating PRIDE Month in Yountville

The Town of Yountville is proud to honor and uplift our LGBTQ+ community through the raising of the Progress PRIDE Flag at Town Hall and a full month of inclusive, joyful programming.

At their June 4 meeting, the Town Council unanimously proclaimed June as Gay PRIDE Month in Yountville, reaffirming our shared values of equality, dignity, and belonging. This annual recognition is more than a tradition, it is a powerful reminder that Yountville is a place where everyone is welcome, and where love, in all its forms, is celebrated.

Throughout the month, we invite you to participate in a series of PRIDE events designed to bring people together, spark creativity, and celebrate the beauty of diversity. From painting to community gatherings, PRIDE in Yountville is an open invitation to connect, express, and support one another.

Let this month be a time of reflection, celebration, and continued progress because a more inclusive community benefits us all.

Around Yountville Commons

The FarmStand Garden was in full bloom for the Napa County Resource Conservation District's Climate-Friendly Garden Tour on May 17. A total of 91 visitors explored the garden throughout the day, including both ticketed guests and walk-in participants eager to learn more about sustainable growing practices. T
he turnout reflects Yountville’s growing interest in local food systems and climate-friendly gardening.

The FarmStand Garden is rooted in community, and this event reminded us just how powerful shared learning can be. When people connect over fresh food and sustainability, it plants the seeds for lasting impact.

Napa County Fire Marshal's Office Presentation - Fire Hazard Severity Zone Designation

At its June 3 meeting, the Town Council took the first step to adopt a new fire safety maps for Yountville. Napa County Fire Marshal Jason Downs provided a presentation covering the updates. The map, created by the State Fire Marshal, shows which areas are at a moderate, high, or very high risk of wildfire. These designations are based on things like dry vegetation, steep slopes, and local weather conditions that can make fires spread faster. Adopting this map keeps Yountville in compliance with state fire safety laws and ensures we’re using the most up-to-date information to help protect the community from wildfires.

In addition to adopting the maps, the Town Council received updates about the continued work being done to support local wildfire prevention efforts. Fuel reduction projects are already underway behind the Veterans Home and throughout the Napa Valley. Why Rebooting Your Computer Actually Works

Tech Tips for a Smoother Day

You’ve probably heard it a hundred times: “Have you tried turning it off and on again?” While it might sound like a tech cliché, there’s real science and logic behind why rebooting your computer actually resolves so many issues.

Here’s why restarting works:

1. Clears Out Memory Clutter
Computers use RAM (random access memory) to temporarily store information. Over time, as programs are opened, closed, or left running, that memory can get cluttered or even leak (when it’s not properly freed up). A reboot clears the slate, freeing up memory and allowing the system to run faster and more smoothly.

2. Stops Problematic Processes
Sometimes, background programs or services get stuck or start misbehaving. This can cause slowdowns, software crashes, or strange behavior. Rebooting stops all running processes and restarts only the ones that should be active, often solving the problem instantly.

3. Applies Updates and Fixes
Software and operating systems often require a reboot to finish installing updates or security patches. Rebooting helps ensure your computer is running the latest code, which can fix bugs or vulnerabilities you didn’t even know were there.

4. Resets Drivers and Hardware Connections
Your computer’s hardware (like your keyboard, monitor, and network card) communicates through drivers. These drivers can sometimes glitch or crash. A reboot reloads them from scratch, which can fix issues like unresponsive peripherals or dropped Wi-Fi connections.

5. Gives the System a Fresh Start
Just like you feel better after a night’s sleep, your computer benefits from a fresh start. Rebooting can resolve temporary system conflicts, restore default settings, and bring your machine back to a clean, working state.

In summary, rebooting is a simple yet powerful troubleshooting tool. It doesn’t fix everything, but when in doubt, a restart can often save you time, frustration, and even a call to tech support.

Pro-Tip: Make it a habit to reboot your computer at least once a week to keep it running at its best.

A Gentle Start to June: Prioritizing Wellness in Small, Daily Ways

The first week of June invites us to slow down and settle into the rhythm of summer. It’s a time when the days stretch a little longer, the evenings grow warmer, and we’re reminded to check in with how we’re feeling physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Living in a place as peaceful and beautiful as Yountville gives us a unique opportunity to focus on wellness in small, meaningful ways. Whether you're spending time in the garden, walking the neighborhoods, or enjoying a quiet moment at home, this is the perfect time to cultivate habits that support your well-being.

Here are a few ideas to ease into the month feeling your best:

Take morning walks before the heat settles in. Even a short stroll can boost circulation, reduce stress, and improve mood.

Stay hydrated. As temperatures rise, remember to sip water regularly. Add a slice of citrus or cucumber to make it feel refreshing and special.

Connect with others. Coffee with a friend, a shared meal, or attending a local event can lift your spirits and help you feel grounded in the community.

Rest when your body asks you to. A midday break or simply sitting in a shady spot with a good book is a great way to recharge.

Do one thing just for you. Whether it’s painting, cooking, birdwatching, or listening to music, make space for the activities that bring you joy.

This week, give yourself permission to be unhurried. Wellness doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes, it’s just about noticing the sun on your face or remembering to breathe a little deeper.

Yountville Arts Coming This Summer: Midnight Snack Trays
Yountville Arts is proud to present Midnight Snack Trays: A Feast for the Eyes, on view June 26 through September 12 at the Steve Rogers Gallery. Created by Seward Johnson, the celebrated sculptor behind Sidewalk Judge on the Yountville Art Walk This intimate collection features more than 60 hand-painted trays selected from both The Seward Johnson Atelier and the Johnson family’s private collection.

Originally painted during quiet, sleepless nights, Johnson’s trays offered him a playful, personal outlet away from the demands of large-scale sculpture. Each tray captures homey moments and nostalgic landscapes, transforming a functional object into a work of art.

Planning and Building Update

Humboldt Mixed-Use Project Moves Forward - The proposed development at the corner of Humboldt and Jefferson Streets is moving forward with a revised design. The updated plan features a two-story building with two ground-floor retail spaces and five residential units, including one designated as affordable housing.

At a special meeting held on May 27, the Zoning and Design Review Board voted to move the project forward with a recommendation for approval. The Town Council will now consider the project at its regular meeting on June 17.

For more information and updates, visit the Current Projects webpage.

Town Council Appoints Members to Zoning & Design Review Board - At a recent meeting, the Town Council interviewed applicants for three open seats on the Zoning & Design Review Board (ZDRB). The Town received more applications than available positions reflecting the strong civic engagement and deep pool of talent within our community.

Following careful deliberation, Council reappointed incumbent members Kenneth Deposki and Michael Zagorsek, and welcomed new appointee Carol Burrell to the Board. Carol brings professional experience in real estate development and a strong interest in community involvement.

The Town also extends sincere appreciation to Kim Cook, a long-serving member of the ZDRB whose term will conclude in July. Kim’s thoughtful input and commitment have helped shape the character and quality of design in Yountville. Her contributions over multiple terms have been instrumental in preserving the small-town charm that defines our community today. Kim will be formally recognized for her service at the July 15 Town Council meeting.

The Town of Yountville thanks all applicants for their interest and dedication to Yountville.
