Overview
The California Office of the State Fire Marshal (CAL FIRE–OSFM) has released updated 2025 Fire Hazard Severity Zone (FHSZ) maps for Local Responsibility Areas (LRAs) across the state. These updates are part of California’s ongoing efforts to strengthen wildfire preparedness and public safety.
The new maps identify areas that face increased wildfire risk and update planning and building requirements for those areas.
What this means for Yountville
Yountville falls within a Local Responsibility Area (LRA), meaning the Town is responsible for adopting and enforcing fire hazard zoning regulations.
Key changes:
New FHSZ maps may affect future development standards in parts of Yountville
Some areas may now fall within high or very high fire hazard zones
Napa County will assist with public outreach and help property owners understand the updated requirements
About the updates
Under Title 14 of the Natural Resources Code, the State Fire Marshal is required to review and update fire hazard maps regularly. The 2025 update adds approximately 1.4 million acres statewide to high and very high severity zones.
These changes are based on new data, improved fire science, and changing wildfire conditions.
