File a claim against the Town

Overview

If you believe the Town of Yountville caused damage to your property or injury to a person, you may file a claim for reimbursement. This process is required before you can pursue legal action against the Town.

Need to know

Claims for personal injury, death, or damage to personal property must be filed within 6 months of the incident date (California Gov. Code §911.2).

Claims for damage to real property (such as land or buildings) must be filed within 1 year of the incident date (California Gov. Code §911.2).

Before you start

Make sure your claim meets these basic requirements:

  • The incident involved property damage, personal injury, or financial loss

  • The Town of Yountville may be legally responsible

  • You are filing within the legal deadline (typically 6 months from the date of the incident)

You’ll need:

  • A clear description of what happened

  • The date, time, and location of the incident

  • Supporting documents (e.g., photos, receipts, estimates, reports)

  • Your contact information

Steps

    Fill out all required fields. Incomplete forms may be returned.

  3. Submit Your Claim
    Deliver your completed form in one of the following ways:

  4. Wait for Review
    Your claim will be reviewed by the Town’s administrative staff and may be forwarded to the Town’s risk management authority for evaluation.

What’s next

After submitting your claim, you will receive written notice of the Town’s decision—either accepting or rejecting the claim. If your claim is denied, you may choose to pursue legal action in accordance with California Government Code procedures.
